University Residence - Sapateiros in Baixa Description
This residence is located in a beautiful building from the 18th century, totally recovered and refurbished for this purpose. It is located in Baixa Pombalina (downtown), in Lisbon’s historical, commercial and cultural centre. It was inaugurated in the school year 2001/2002 and its condition is like new. It's the largest private purpose built student residence in Lisbon. It is managed by a great staff, which is always attentive to any situation.
It is a mixed Residence (gender separation by floors) with 75 beds, distributed across 71 single rooms, 2 single rooms with WC and 1 studio (for 2 people). There are 5 shared bathrooms (one in each floor), 5 shared kitchens (one in each floor), 2 living rooms, study room, self service laundry and direction office.
All the rooms are equipped with cable Internet access, central heating, telephone with direct line and computer and TV plugs.
The single rooms, with about 12m2 of use area, are equipped with a bed (1.90mx0.90m), a bedside table, a closet, a desk with chair and a table lamp, a cork frame, a bookcase, a wash-basin with mirror, bedclothes and towels. The twin room is about 24m2 and has bunk beds. The studio, with approximately 28m2, can house two residents and has, apart the equipments above described, two single beds, a full bathroom and a totally equipped kitchenette.
A shared bathroom exists in each floor, equipped with showers, toilets and wash-basins, suitable for the number of residents. The Residence furnishes toilet paper and liquid soap.
There is also in each floor, a shared kitchen, equipped with an electric stove, ventilator, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, plates, glasses and cutlery, pans and pots and kitchenware.
The Residence has two living rooms for the residents to socialize. The rooms are equipped with air-conditioning and are furnished with couches, tables and foosball table. Apart from that there are also TV’s with cable channels, a DVD player, society games and a vending machine with drinks and snacks.
The study room, with good natural light, has wireless Internet, air-conditioning and is furnished with couches, bookcases, tables and chairs.
The self-service laundry is equipped with semi-industrial washing and drying machines. There are also irons and ironing tables available.
Door service and vigilance:
A vigilance team ensures the door service and vigilance 24 hours a day. Next to the vigilance desk, there's a telephone, the video vigilance and the fire detection centrals.
This residence particularly enjoys from a unique, prime location in the city of Lisbon. Baixa is the heart of Lisbon, with all the bars, restaurants and traditional commerce. You can pretty much breathe the Portuguese culture while walking through these streets. It's very touristic but it's a very lively area of the Portuguese capital. You can easily walk to the nightlife district, Bairro Alto, or join the trendiest, alternative crowd in Cais do Sodré.
By bus, you have 43, 43, 23 in Rossio and Praça do Comércio bus stops. From the airport you have AEROBUS from Airport to Praça do Comércio bus stop.
By metro (tube), the closest stop is Baixa/Chiado station (blue/green lines) which is less than 2 mins walking.
By train, you have the Rossio train station less than 300m away.
Prices include lodging, water, gas, electricity up to 25Kw/month, supply of towels and bed sheets and changing of these once a week, weekly room cleaning and daily common areas cleaning, use of common spaces and reception services, access to TV satellite channels and fast Internet connection, excluding video and music downloads.
Not included in the price are phone calls and fax, electricity surplus and the use of self-service laundry. These services will be charged according to the actual use and respective tariff. Each extra Kw = €0.22. Each laundry coin = €1.50 (usually residents require 2 coins: 1 for washing and 1 for drying).
The room allocation is made by the Residence Director. Former residents and those who have renewed their stay will have preference when choosing the room. In case there is a problem, the Residence reserves itself the right to allocate the Resident in another room during his/her stay, as long as the new room is the same type as the one stated in the contract.
Same gender direct family (mother or sister/ father or brother) are allowed after permission of the Residence Director. In general, visits are authorized to enter the Residence from 8am until 11pm. When there is availability they can rent a room, paying the current fee.
Schedule to enter and exit the residence:
Residents are free and can enter and exit the Residence when it is more convenient to them. They will be given a magnetic card, with which they can access the main door.
